Friday, January 15, 2021

On December 11, 2020, the Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) published the latest revisions to CAN/CGSB-32.310 – Organic Production Systems: General Principles and Management Standards and CAN/CGSB-32.311– Organic Production Systems: Permitted Substances Lists (PSL).  All operators have one year from the date of publication to comply with the revised clauses of the 2020 Canadian Organic Standards.  Please update your electronic bookmarks or print the revised versions of the standards and PSL.

To make it easier for operators, the Organic Federation of Canada has prepared documents presenting the 2015 and 2020 standards side-by-side with the 2020 modifications highlighted. These documents are available at the following link: These comparison documents include links to documents prepared by the Organic Federation of Canada that help to explain the changes that have been made.

Canadian Organic Growers has published, COG's Guide to the Canadian organic Standards.  The guide reflects the interpretation of the standards by the Organic Standards Interpretation Committee (SIC), which is overseen by the Organic Federation of Canada in partnership with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. A link is provided in the footer of each page so readers can learn more about the Canadian Organic Standards by reading Q&As. The questions are submitted by the public and the SIC’s answers are binding.

Please do not hesitate to contact CSI if you have questions on how changes to the standards and PSL will impact your operation.
